Is Jesus the way to recover our humanity?

One New Humanity offers a vision of glory that confronts the shame and violence of our world. With insights from early Christians, the global church, social sciences, and Scripture, the authors show that in Christ we gain a peaceable way of being human. The authors argue that in Ephesians 2:13–16, a social and horizontal dimension to the atonement of Christ reveals a social and horizontal dimension to the gospel of Christ.

Section I examines how being human means original glory precedes original sin, helping us grapple with shame and violence. Section II explores a second aspect of being human, that our default response to opposition is hostility. Finally, Section III surveys how we reclaim our true humanity in following Jesus and proclaiming good news of peace.

One New Humanity provides an inspiring framework to pursue Christ-centered reconciliation. Christ is our peace; Christ makes peace; Christ preaches peace. We participate with King Jesus in embodying peace, for the world, far and near.
