Lyle L. Vander Werff
Dr. Lyle Vander Werff served as Professor of Religion at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, retiring in 1988. He first encountered the Muslim world while serving as a missionary with the Arabian Mission in Kuwait. The need for historical perspective on Christian-Muslim relations and for a workable pattern for fulfilling the Great Commission prompted studies in Islamics with Dr. Kenneth Cragg at Jerusalem, and later a doctoral program at New College (theology and mission) and the William Muir Institute (Islamics) at the University of Edinburgh.
A minister of the Reformed Church in America, Dr. Vander Werff served with the Theological Commission of the RCA.
