WCP Author is Interviewed by Marv Newell

Greetings from Missio Nexus and welcome to the May 2019 edition of Leader's Edge Book Summary – Author Interview. I'm Marv Newell, and I give oversight to the learning services of Missio Nexus.

In this month’s author interview we feature an informal conversation with Roy Oksnevad who is author of the book The Burden of Baggage: First-Generation Issues in Coming to Christ. Our regular listeners know the monthly Leaders Edge Book Summary profiles one book in each of three topical categories: Spiritual Formation, Organizational Leadership and finally a book on some aspect of Missions or Ministry.

This month we are focused on a resource that falls within the ministry category. In this new book Roy Oksnevad, presents an insightful look inside the community of first generation believers from Muslims backgrounds. It is noteworthy to see portrayed how Iranian culture carries over into the church, impacting both its strengths and vulnerabilities. Again, the book is entitled The Burden of Baggage: First-Generation Issues in Coming to Christ.

Thorough in the research presented and knowledgeable of the history and culture of the Iranian people, Oksnevad presents an insightful look inside the community of first generation believers from Muslims backgrounds. It is noteworthy to see portrayed how Iranian culture carries over into the church, impacting both its strengths and vulnerabilities. Many insights into internal struggles in Middle Eastern churches in general are gained through this focused study on Iranian believers. This is the only book I know that portrays the MBB community from the inside out based on in-depth interviews.
