MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

William Carey Library publishes books that promote insights and initiatives leading to mission breakthroughs among all peoples. Those breakthroughs or mission frontiers include the evangelization and empowerment of unreached peoples and the discovery of new strategies and methods of ministry and mobilization. We especially seek to assist the work of the mission executive, field missionary, church leader, and the student of world mission.

We accept proposals for books on mission frontiers as defined above. For a sample of our books, visit our Web site at www.missionbooks.org. WCL books generally fall within the following two categories:

Scholarly and Professional
This category includes field research, dissertations and other professional studies on topics such as church growth and mobilization, anthropology, international development, intercultural communication, business as mission, contextualization, language learning, pastoral and member care, mission history, leadership, etc.

Educational
This category includes textbooks, study guides, software and other print and electronic books specifically developed to mobilize and equip college, university, conference, seminar and other students of world mission.

William Carey Library does not publish:

  •      Poetry, Fiction or Political Commentaries
  •      Books that do not focus on mission frontiers as defined above

SUBMISSION PROCESS

The submission process starts with a maximum two-page letter of inquiry, including a brief author bio and book overview. If the inquiry falls within our publishing parameters for books on mission frontiers, we will request a full proposal to submit to our editorial board at their bimonthly meeting. Please do not submit a full proposal or a manuscript unless requested (see notes A and B below). The following guidelines apply for the full proposal:

  1. A one-page cover letter including the author’s current affiliation and contact information; the book title and overview.
  2. A table of contents with a brief summary of each chapter
  3. An introduction and chapter one only (if available). Do not submit the full manuscript unless requested.
  4. A resume including the author’s educational background, ministry, job and teaching experience, previously published works and organizational affiliations.
  5. A thesis statement and a description of the distinctive contribution that the work will make to the existing literature on the topic. 8. Include brief endorsements (if available) from experts in the field or other key supporters, and whether this is a personal project or a project supported by your organization.

NOTES

A.  Please do not submit a manuscript unless requested. Manuscripts are requested for proposals that are accepted by our editorial board at their quarterly meeting. We will contact you to request the manuscript should the board vote to send it to the next step: a review by a scholar or professional qualified in your subject area. The board will issue its final decision after the review. The proposal and review processes generally take about 3-6 months. After our editorial board approves a manuscript for publication, the production process will take about one year after the contract is signed. The timeframes could vary, depending on a number of factors.

B.  Unsolicited manuscripts, graphics or images may not be returned. When requested, manuscripts are to be submitted according to the guidelines above under Format. The maximum page count for manuscripts in the above format is 500 - including graphics and front and back matter - unless otherwise approved.
